Il Vento (After The Tempest)

Il Vento was first developed as an ecological reimagining of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, written by Alys Daroy and first developed and performed by Shakespeare South in 2026. The work explores elemental agency, extraction, technology and environmental change through performance, music, sound and moving image.

Il Vento was workshopped at Carrick Hill House Museum and Garden in Adelaide in May 2026, before a full workshop presentation at the World Shakespeare Congress at the Conservatorio di Verona, Italy, in July 2026.

The cast featured Michaela Burger as Il Vento, Paul Westbrook as Caliban, Aurora Kurth and Melanie Munt as Miranda, Alys Daroy as Sycorax and Leo Murray as the voice of Prospero.

Original music was composed by Michaela Burger, with an electronic score by Maestro Federico Zandonà and Conservatorio di Verona composers Niccolò Ferrari, Pietro Tartarini, Martino Santarnecchi, Paola Cantachin, Leila Gharib, Davide Beveresco and Emil Odorico. Sound design was by Leo Murray, video and scenography by Joshua Zeunert, with Lauren Daniels as Production Assistant and Beth Granville as script consultant.
